PUNAVUORISEURA & RÖÖPERIFEST

Punavuoriseura is a district association that serves as a liaison between the community and city authorities and acts in the interests of the local residents and businesses to maintain the vibrancy of the district. This means working towards keeping existing services, such as schools, daycare centers, the healthcare center, and spaces where residents can assemble, in the district. The association makes initiatives to develop public transport and improve the park culture, and supports various street and square fairs in applying for and organizing the necessary licenses. The association organizes the Helsinki Day and Shrovetide events in the Sinebrychoff Park. All the activities are principally based on making the district a more comfortable place to live, increasing the communal spirit and preserving the unique local culture.

Rööperifest is an open group of active entrepreneurs, community representatives, residents and other local operators from Punavuori. The main communal effort is the annual Rööperifest district festival on the Fredrikintori square. Rööperifest was born in 2009 from the wish of a few local entrepreneurs for Punavuori (Rööperi) to have its own community festival. They also wanted to get to know other operators in the district better and cooperate with them, to counterbalance the sometimes lonely daily life of solo entrepreneurship. By participating in the IHME Project, Rööperifest wants to extend its collective activities beyond organizing events: "We want to play our own part in carrying an image of a diverse and many-layered Punavuori out into the wider world!"
